PSC Mentorship

Public Scholarship Certificate prepares graduate students and postdocs to pursue publicly engaged scholarship in their respective fields. While other aspects of PSC provide multi-disciplinary approaches, project-specific mentorship is crucial for understanding how your work might be situated within the context of your project and field.
Because of the variation between disciplines and projects, the nature of each mentoring relationship will differ depending on the project and mentor/mentee relationship. Regardless of these differences, mentors should fulfill the following requirements:
- Review and approve the student’s PSC Engagement Plan
- Review and approve the student’s digital portfolio before submission to the EHN and Graduate School
- Provide a brief testimony or recommendation of the student’s work to be included in the digital portfolio.
Ideally, and in addition to these roles, mentors should serve as advisors and collaborators on publicly projects, courses, and/or programs. Qualified PSC mentors can come from across and beyond the University, and do not need to be a students' advisor or postdoc's supervisor.
