Degree Program Information
The general educational objectives of the Au.D Program are to:
- Prepare audiology practitioners with a strong foundation in the basic sciences.
- Provide coursework and supervised clinical experiences that build competencies in the areas outlined by ASHA (Foundations of Practice, Prevention and Identification, and Evaluation and Treatment).
- Engage students in research to develop skills for applying evidence-based approaches to clinical practice.
Students completing the Au.D. program will have met the course and practicum requirements set by ASHA for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology and for New York State licensure.
Any student with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. or international institution is eligible to apply to the Au.D. program. An undergraduate degree in speech or hearing sciences is not required; however, background coursework in hearing science and introductory audiology must be completed before starting the program. To meet ASHA general education requirements, students must also show evidence of coursework in math, science, social science, human communication processes, and speech/language disorders (see Background Course Requirements link below).
