Introduction

Our department has had a rich, fascinating, and sometimes tumultuous history. We are able to present this collection of historical accounts thanks to the efforts of the late Philip T. Church, Francis H. Root Professor Emeritus of Mathematics.

The timeline below lists many, but not all, of the people affiliated with the department throughout its history. Some of the years are approximate. Corrections and additions are welcome.
