Medieval/Early Modern
This research cluster covers the historical span of the medieval and early modern (Renaissance and Baroque) eras. Faculty in this cluster consider a variety of topics including music, dance, theater and art in early modern England; musical and artistic depictions of melancholy; the relationships among religion, science, and the arts; 17th-century Dutch painting; Italian Renaissance art; and the transformation of the idea of the Gothic from medieval times to our own.
