Certificate of Excellence

The International Student Certificate of Excellence (LinkedIn badge) or Engagement Certificate (LinkedIn badge) gives first year students the ability to systematically navigate and learn Syracuse University’s academic requirements and expectations, to ensure a successful college transition and ultimately academic success. Students who have earned the certificate will be recommended to participate in A&S and Maxwell career immersion programs. This certificate will be counted towards the upcoming co-curricular transcript. This certificate program will officially start in Fall 2021.

Upon the completion of the certificate, students will be able to:

  1. Be familiar with the U.S. higher education system and its differences from other countries
  2. Analyze Syracuse University’s academic requirements and expectations
  3. Identify curricular and co-curricular resources and opportunities
  4. Assess self-academic strengths and weakness
  5. Establish goals and action plan for the academic year
  6. Understand University policies such as Academic Integrity and Academic Standing
  7. Apply academic success skills such as time management, note taking, self-discipline and others

To earn the certificate, students must fulfill the following requirements.

Part I: SU International Student Success Catapult Program (SU-ISSC) - Milestone

  1. Complete required tasks by SU-ISSC in Blackboard before the fall semester (1st semester) starts
  2. Attend A&S international student orientation during the opening weekend

Part II: Peer Mentor Program

  1. Attend at least 8 of the 13 weekly meetings with Peer Mentor and other mentees during the 1st semester
  2. Attend at least on-campus or off-campus event organized by Peer Mentor during the 1st semester
  3. Academic plan for the freshman year: draft and final version

Part III: Wednesday International Student Forum

  1. Attend at least 5 of the 10 to 12 weekly Wednesday International Student Forum during the 1st semester

Part IV: First Term GPA

  1. Students with GPA 3.0 and above will receive International Student Certificate of Excellence
  2. Student with GPA 2.0 to 2.99 will receive International Student Engagement Certificate
