This web page will be your one-stop resource for any information related to your success as a new student in A&S|Maxwell. In addition to communications from the Office of New Student and Family Programs, A&S |Maxwell students receive weekly emails from the Academic and Career Advising team, with information “You Otto Know” that will help them prepare for the transition to College and beyond.

Check out the University’s Required Tasks on the Becoming Orange website. Familiarize yourself with the website as it includes important information and deadlines you will have to follow during the summer.

To Do List

Step One – Activate your NetID and syr.edu email ASAP. You will need your SUID#, included in your acceptance letter. We will be sending all communications to your Syracuse University (@syr.edu) email account. Important information will be directed to that account and not to the email account you used in your application.

Email communications will go only to you and not to your parents and/or guardians. Be sure to check it at least once a week!

Step Two – Take the foreign language and the mathematics placement exams as soon as possible. These will open on Monday, June 3, 2024.

Notes about Placement Exams:

All incoming students should take the foreign language and mathematics placement exams, even if you have AP/IB/College credits that may transfer.

Do not stress! No prior knowledge or experience is needed to take these exams. Do NOT study!

The placement exams ask basic questions for SU to gauge where your proficiency level is in math or a specific foreign language. These will be used to determine your starting point for these classes.

Step Three – Starting on Monday, June 3rd the registrar’s office will be sending out the First Year Student Survey via email.You will receive an email on your (@syr.edu) account with a unique Qualtrics survey link to complete by Monday, June 28, 2024.

AP/IB/Transfer Credit

Advanced Placement (AP) Exam

Contact College Board to have your scores sent to SU (college code 2823).
Refer to the AP Examination Table for score requirements and a list of SU equivalent courses.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Credit

Contact IB to have your transcript send to casadvising@syr.edu.
Refer to the IB Credit Table for score requirements and list of SU equivalent courses.

Transfer Credit

Send copies of syllabi for any Foreign Language courses to astransfercredit@syr.edu for review.
Contact the institution where the class was taken to have your official transcript sent to the A&S|Maxwell Academic and Career Advising Office:

Electronic transcripts (preferred) may be emailed to astransfercredit@syr.edu.
(If ordering through Parchment, please select “I’m sending to myself or another individual”, located under the search bar. This will allow you to send transcripts directly to our office for review.)
