Academic Intervention

One of the most acute challenges for international students is navigating requirements from all directions. We have initiatives and guiding materials to help international students develop learning habits and strategies, address academic challenges in a timely manner and identify opportunities for academically talented students.

Academic Success Compass

Guidelines that help international students develop learning strategies and refine mindsets and personal management skills during their four years of undergraduate study. Academic and career advisors can also utilize the Compass to ensure students stay on the right track during their academic and personal journeys. The Compass provides a succinct semester-by-semester academic success plan.

Forum topics are selected based on students’ feedback and reflections from faculty and advisers’ interactions with international students. Forum facilitators and panelists are faculty, advisors, student leaders, and employers.

High Achieving International Students

We host special social and academic events for 1st-year international students with GPAs of 3.5 and above in the Spring semester. Those events help talented students explore advanced academic and career opportunities, such as research, internships, career immersion trips, student leadership, the Honors Program, awards, 4+1 graduate programs and others.

International Students in Academic Probation

We proactively schedule one-on-one monthly meetings with 1st-year international students on academic probation in addition to their mandatory probation meeting with advisors. We assess student’s struggles, help identify strategies, and develop an academic plan for students to improve academic learning.
