Foundations of the Future: Micron Day 2026
Syracuse University's second annual Micron Day brought more than 700 high school students to the Ensley Athletic Center on April 21, along with their families, teachers and a wide range of community partners. The day was built around hands-on exhibits, conversation and a clear question for the next generation of innovators: what might your future in technology look like? With Micron Technology building a $100 billion semiconductor facility in nearby Clay (and tens of thousands of jobs expected to follow), that question has real weight.
Faculty, students and staff from across the College of Arts and Sciences, including representatives from biotechnology, chemistry and physics, spent the day talking with visitors about the science that makes today's technology possible, and the curiosity that comes before any of it. See below for a few highlights from the day’s activities.
Lab supervisor Gary Bonomo and other members of the Department of Chemistry spent the day showing curious students a closer look at the science behind everyday materials.
Visitors also explored the fundamentals of DNA, gene technology and the molecular processes underlying modern biotech.
Even Otto the Orange got in on the fun, stopping by the Department of Physics table to launch a rocket alongside students.
