After graduation in 1955 with a Major in Physics and a Minor in Mathematics and Philosophy, I went on to obtain a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Michigan and did further graduate work at Wayne State University. I worked for many years as an aerospace engineer at the Bendix Corporation and did some part-time college teaching with courses in Engineering Physics.
I moved from Michigan to California in 1981. I had other engineering and management roles at a number of companies. Around 1995, I started a company doing website design and marketing which I am still involved in as my retirement job.

I graduated from SU in 2014 with a BS in Physics and a BA in Applied Math. I hope the Society of Physics Students chapter at SU is still going strong - I recall many fun days and long nights in the physics lounge.
I am happy to announce that as of just over 1 week ago I am now happily married! I am attaching a picture as proof :-)
As an additional update, I have been working as an Optical Systems Engineer at Metalenz Inc. here in Boston, MA for almost 2 years now, where we are implementing metasurface optics into consumer electronic devices. Over the past 8 years of my career, I have had a few different roles that have utilized my broad physics background from SU. I have worked in semiconductor manufacturing as a Device & Yield Engineer for just under 1 year and in the defense industry for 5 years working on LiDAR, optical communications, and other optoelectronic & imaging work.

I was an '05 grad majoring in aerospace engineering with minors in physics and math. I completed a master's at Princeton in ‘07 in mechanical and aerospace engineering and an MBA at UCLA in 2014. I'm currently the Chief Engineer and Technical Director of Next Generation Space Capabilities at Millennium Space Systems (a Boeing subsidiary) and became an Associate Technical Fellow (Boeing) in autonomous space systems in 2022. My wife, Sarah (Schaffner) was an '05 and ‘07 Syracuse grad in Setnor/VPA. We have two kids, Luke (10) and Michelle (7), and currently live in South Bay Los Angeles (lots of SU alums out here!).
MD Fisher '51
We are delighted to share an update from MD Fisher, who celebrated his 99th birthday on October 31st! MD, who has fond memories of the SU Physics Department, worked on Univac, the first commercially available computer, and has had a distinguished career in computer science and mathematics. Now living in Australia, he wonders if he might be our oldest alum. Back in 2022, he shared with us his rich family history and professional achievements, highlighting his contributions to the fields of computer science and education.
