The Syracuse University chapter of the national mathematics honorary society Pi Mu Epsilon (New York Alpha chapter) welcomed seven new members in Spring 2024. Founded in 1914 at Syracuse University, Pi Mu Epsilon currently has over 350 chapters at colleges and universities throughout the United States. The primary mission of the honor society is to promote mathematical activities among university students.

Spring 2024 Inductees

Andrew Ames '27 is a double major in applied mathematics and economics. His interest in mathematics grew during his first calculus and physics courses, as both presented a new level of challenges.

Mairead Cummins '24 recently graduated as a double major in mathematics and theater design and technology. She finds higher-level mathematics uniquely engaging because they demand thinking differently and in varied contexts beyond ordinary experience.

Anchen Ding '25 is a mathematics major. She finds mathematics attractive not only as a discipline of its own, but also as the bedrock upon which other sciences stand.

Sam Fortunato '25 is a mathematics major. He perceives mathematics as a universal language through which humans (and any other sentient beings) can understand the universe they inhabit.

John Gauthier '26 is an aerospace engineering major. Having seen the many applications of mathematics to aerospace engineering, he decided to continue working toward a minor in mathematics.

Sadie Meyer '26 is a double major in mathematics and biomedical engineering. During her work at BioInspired Institute she combined mathematical approaches with experimental design to conduct characterizations of programmed shape memory polymer topography.

Shengda Wang '26 is a mathematics major. His pursuit of rigorous logic and analytical thinking has led him toward deeper mathematical theorems and the structure behind their proofs.
