Financial Aid and Support
The M.A. programs in Art History offer merit-based financial support for outstanding students.
Incoming students may apply for teaching assistantships, tuition scholarships, and University fellowships by stating their need on the admission application form. Awards are announced no later than early April.
Continuing students indicate their interest in financial aid in a letter to the Director of Graduate Studies prior to March 1. Students can also apply for modest research travel grants during their final year in the program.
Teaching Assistantships
Assistantships are usually granted for two years of study. They carry full tuition and provide a stipend for living expenses. Teaching assistants support the teaching of the large introductory art history survey course, including directing small student discussion sections and grading short papers and exams.
Full and partial tuition scholarships
Scholarships cover partial or full tuition.
University Fellows
Fellows receive tuition and a stipend, and have no other duties
Full Fellowships
Fellows receive full tuition plus a stipend for living expenses for the three-semester program.
Other funding
Most students who are not fellows receive partial tuition scholarship and some are also eligible to receive a stipend to cover expenses in Italy.
