Pre-Health Advising: Partner Schools and Early Assurance Programs
Syracuse University's Early Assurance Program (EAP) partnerships allow Syracuse University students to be accepted or conditionally accepted to medical, dental and pharmacy programs. Through these programs, students are not required to take the MCAT for admission to medical school and enjoy either an abbreviated undergraduate timeline or additional flexibility in their advanced undergraduate years.

Syracuse University / SUNY Upstate Medical University Combined Bachelor’s-M.D. Program

Preferred Candidate Criteria:
- New York State residents, particularly those from Central/Upstate New York
- Strong interest in Central New York with demonstrable ties to the region
- Backgrounds including rural, lower socioeconomic status, first-generation college, or medically underserved communities
Eligibility Requirements
- An excellent high school GPA (minimum 90% average or a 3.50 GPA). The score will not be rounded to meet this minimum.
- Extra-curricular activities that clearly document experience in a healthcare setting and a commitment to community service or volunteer work.
- SAT test scores of 1360 or better (combined critical reading & math) or ACT test score of 29 composite or better. These scores will not be rounded to meet this minimum.
- International students are eligible to apply.
Application Timeline:
- To be considered for this program, simply indicate interest in the program in the "Academics" section in Syracuse University's portion of the Common Application or Coalition Application, then submit the application.
- Application deadline: January 5
- Interviews (estimated): First week of February
- Committee decisions (estimated): End of March/first week of April
Additional Pathway: 3 Plus 4 Option
- Syracuse University offers a 3 plus 4 option, allowing students to accelerate their journey to medical school with a major in biology. Syracuse University will evaluate you throughout your first year and make a recommendation to Upstate on whether you would be an excellent candidate. Students who do not wish to major in biology are still eligible for this program, but would follow a 4 plus 4 timeline.
Conditions of Acceptance after Enrollment at Syracuse University:
- Regular meetings with academic advisors
- Completion of graduation requirements and specified medical school prerequisite courses with grades of “B” or higher typically including:
- General Biology I and II (with lab)
- General Chemistry I and II (with lab)
- Organic Chemistry I and II (with lab)
- General Physics I and II (with lab)
- Biochemistry
- Psychology
- Sociology
- Statistics
- Minimum of twelve (12) credit hours each semester
- Maintenance of a 3.50 cumulative GPA and completion of 40 hours of volunteer service during undergraduate enrollment
Enrollment Outcomes: Up to 10 students are expected to annually matriculate into Upstate’s MD program from Syracuse University through the combined program
Once you are accepted to the Syracuse University/SUNY Upstate combined bachelor’s and medical degree program you should consider the agreement binding. Application to any other program will rescind the acceptance.

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) EAP
The Early Assurance Program (EAP) partnership between Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) and Syracuse University provides the opportunity for students to be accepted to medical school, dental school, or the doctor of pharmacy program prior to matriculation at Syracuse University or after the completion of the first year of study.
Degrees Offered
Bachelor’s degree at Syracuse University + DO, PharmD or DDS at LECOM
Application Process: High School Students
To apply, complete BOTH the Syracuse University Common App or Coalition App and the LECOM EAP application. For access to the LECOM EAP application, submit this inquiry form on the LECOM website.
If accepted, you will receive a provisional acceptance to LECOM indicating your intended date of entry (matriculation). You must remain enrolled at Syracuse University for at least two consecutive years prior to LECOM matriculation and matriculate at LECOM within one year from the intended matriculation date on your provisional acceptance letter.
Please note that only U.S. citizens or permanent residents will be considered for the DO and DDS programs at LECOM. International students with an F-1 Visa may apply to the PharmD program.
Application Process: Syracuse University Students
Current Syracuse University students may apply to the LECOM EAP after they have earned at least 30, but no more than 60, credit hours at Syracuse University.

Application Requirements
- SAT ≥ 1240 or ACT ≥ 26
- High School un-weighted GPA ≥ 3.5 (this applies to high school applicants and college applicants)
- Must be accepted to Syracuse University (LECOM will confirm admission to Syracuse before extending an official offer of admission to high school applicants)
- Must NOT have already earned a four-year degree before applying to LECOM
- Must be a lawful, permanent U.S. resident
Requirements During College (after acceptance to EAP)
- Students must maintain specified GPA in science and non-science courses*
- Standardized testing requirement varies based on LECOM program:
- DO Program: MCAT not required
- PharmD Program: PCAT not required
- Dental Program: DAT academic average ≥ 18 (scoring ≥ 17 in each section)
*Policies are detailed in the LECOM EAP Policy Manual (available in the Office of Pre-Health Advising and sent to students upon acceptance to the program)

Albany Medical College EAP
The EAP partnership between Albany Medical College and Syracuse University provides the opportunity for students to be accepted to medical school prior to the junior year of undergraduate study. As the MCAT and typical pre-med course requirements are waived for students accepted to the Albany Medical College EAP, they are able to pursue additional majors and minors, study abroad opportunities and research endeavors.

Application Process
Students interested in the Albany Medical College EAP must participate in the Pre-Health Evaluation Committee process starting in fall semester of their sophomore year. Students apply to the EAP during the summer prior to junior year.

Application Requirements
- SAT ≥ 1400 or ACT ≥ 31
- BCPM (biology, chemistry, physics, math) GPA and cumulative GPA ≥ 3.50 at the time of application; all grades must be B or better
- Complete the science coursework below; at least two of the four courses must be completed prior to the end of the sophomore year:
- One year of general biology (with lab)
- One year of general chemistry (with lab)
- One year of organic chemistry (with lab)
- One year of general physics (with lab)
- Work the Pre-Health Evaluation Committee in the to obtain a committee letter in support of the EAP application
- There are no requirements for residency or citizenship; this program is open to international applicants
Requirements After Acceptance to the EAP
- Maintain semester and overall GPA ≥ 3.50
- Participate in meaningful activities to gain experience in clinical service, community service, and/or research
- MCAT not required
