Our chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon (national mathematics honorary society) welcomed 7 new members in Fall 2017 and 7 more in Spring 2018. Over the last two years the chapter has increased the proportion of career-focused events that it runs. Syracuse undergraduates came to learn about graduate programs and job prospects in financial mathematics, biostatistics, statistics, and actuarial science. There were several talks on various topics in pure mathematics, as well as a discussion of research programs for undergraduates.
Alumni stories make great topics for PME-organized events. If you are an SU alum interested in speaking about your experience after graduation, and the role that mathematics has had in your career, please contact Leonid Kovalev (faculty advisor of the chapter).
