The French and Francophone Studies minor at Syracuse University prepares students to thrive in an increasingly multi-cultural world. The program regularly offers a variety of courses that investigate both the literature and culture of the French-speaking world. These courses are particularly enriching due to their interdisciplinary emphasis in areas such as women's studies, Caribbean studies, and colonial and postcolonial studies. The program also combines medieval and early modern outlooks with contemporary perspectives to give students a broad view of literary and cultural trends across the centuries.

A minor in French and Francophone Studies consists of a minimum of 18 credits including FRE 202 French IV and 15 upper-division FRE credits, or if a student places above 202, they will take all 18 French credits at the 300 and 400 level. At least 6 credits of 300-level FRE courses must be taken before entering any 400-level FRE course. At least 6 credits of 400-level FRE courses are required for the minor.
