Joan Bryant, associate professor of African American Studies, was recently a guest on the New Books Network podcast, where she discussed her latest work, "Reluctant Race Men: Black Challenges to the Practice of Race in Nineteenth-century America" (Oxford UP, 2024). Bryant's Reluctant Race Men, which traces a history of race and activism during the long nineteenth-century, was recently shortlisted for the 2024 Museum of African American History Stone Book Award.
Bryant was interviewed by Kishauna Soljour, an assistant professor in public humanities at San Diego State University. The New Books Network is a consortium of author-interview podcast channels dedicated to public education.
