Popular Culture
Research in the area of popular culture as it relates to art and music deals with a variety of critical issues. These include the often slippery aesthetic and stylistic distinctions between “popular” culture and “high” culture, studies of mass cultural transmission and production, and an attention to audiences and how they fashion meanings out of “everyday” popular art and music. We approach these subjects with an interdisciplinary toolbox that draws on methodologies ranging from cultural studies and media studies, to genre and textual analysis.
