We focus on the variety of experimental approaches to artistic and cultural expression that have developed in the last two centuries. Many of these interventions aimed to transcend the boundaries between traditional artistic media and musical categories, and were at times animated by more radical attempts to transform society. Our study of these works brings to light their multiple and fascinating dimensions.
