“Before I started this program, I didn't know I was a writer. Now I know,” says Istarlin Dafe, regarding her involvement with the Narratio Fellowship program, co-developed by Ahmed Badhr, a writer and former refugee of Iraq, and Brice Nordquist, assistant professor of writing and rhetoric in A&S. Narratio brings together refugee artists and resettled refugee youth, such as Dafe, to explore the full range of their experiences through modes of artistic expression. Launched in collaboration with the Syracuse University Humanities Center and the North Side Learning Center, the program includes workshops and guest speakers, culminating in a performance of the Fellows' original poetry at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
