Deepali Kulkarni was recently awarded a 2018-2019 Fulbright Research award. This award will support her dissertation research in Gujarat, India. She will be working with Ann Grodzins Gold, Chandra Talpade Mohanty and Joanne Punzo Waghorne. Her dissertation project, tentatively titled "Hindu Women’s Solidarities and Devotional Practice in Urban India," focuses on Hindu women's use of urban temple spaces. Her research uses transnational feminist theory and the specificity of ethnographic method to understand women's creation of local solidarities through devotional practices. Specifically, she looks at prayer, recitation of sacred texts, ritual worship, and other methods which involve the exchange of ideas and objects among women of various caste and class backgrounds.
