Katie Duchscherer is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Psychology department. She is excited to begin teaching in the Fall semester of 2024. Her favorite part of teaching is getting students excited about the process of conducting psychological research. She is also looking forward to developing courses on media psychology and behavior online.
Katie Duchscherer’s research focuses primarily on processes of identity expression through social media, and the consequences such expression has on a person’s behavior. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the use of pseudonyms (e.g., screennames) as a method of identity expression online, and on how the use of pseudonyms—rather than being anonymous—may encourage prosocial behavior in a social media setting. Overall, her research brings together media psychology, social identity, and individuation processes in virtual spaces.
