Sophie Hernandez '22 will graduate with a dual degree in biology and environmental science and a concentration in sustainability and policy. She is a third-generation Syracuse University student interested in environmental justice and the effects of climate change on people, particularly minorities. During her first year, she was selected as a WellsLink Minority Leadership Scholar, and she continues to support minority students via the Office of Multicultural Affairs.
Hernandez is part of a research team comprised of graduate students and teaching assistants that is looking at the history of NASA and its partners' sea-level rise policies. Throughout her time at SU, Hernandez has received funding from Louis Stokes Minority Leadership Program, Women in Science and Engineering, and the Syracuse Office of Undergraduate Study and Creative Engagement.
