Congratulations to Professor Scott Manning Stevens, Director of Native American and Indigenous Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences, and a courtesy faculty member in our department, for his involvement with the Karl Bodmer exhibit at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Stevens is one of the co-authors of the exhibit catalog, “Faces from the Interior: The North American Portraits of Karl Bodmer” (University of Washington Press, 2021).
Swiss-born Karl Bodmer (1809–1893) was one of the first and most accomplished European artists to document the landscape of the North American interior and its Indigenous peoples.
