Danielle Taana Smith, professor of African American studies and director of the Renée Crown University Honors Program, published an essay in the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs titled, “Inflection Points: Pax Americana at a Crossroad.” The article argues that the United States must restructure the ‘Pax Americana,’ which is a concept created following World War II referring to the relative peace and stability globally when the U.S. became one of the world’s superpowers.
In the essay, Smith emphasizes how the 'American Peace' is seen as unattainable for many in the Global South due to war, economic hardship, forced migration, environmental calamity and political repression. She contends that the U.S. must reform post-World War II institutions to better represent the Global South and establish itself as a global leader in the 21st century.
