Chris Forster received his BA from Providence College in 2003 and his PhD from the University of Virginia in 2011. His research and teaching center around modernist literature and twentieth century literature and culture more broadly. He is particularly interested in the history of obscenity, the intersections of media history and literary history, and intellectual property. He is currently at work on a book manuscript examining modernist obscenity debates (surrounding texts like Joyce's Ulysses and D. H. Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover) in the context of the broader media ecology of the early twentieth century. He is particularly fascinated by the reception, reproduction, and circulation in America of a particular French painting.
Additionally, he is interested in the effects of the informationalization of culture on how we study, learn, and teach--that is, "digital humanities."
Prof. Forster is interested in working on graduates projects dealing with any aspect of twentieth century literature, the history of obscenity and copyright, or digital projects of some kind.
