Congratulations to Thoru Pederson ’63, ’68 Ph.D. on his election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences Class of 2020. Pederson received a Ph.D. in zoology, now biology, at Syracuse University in 1968. He is now the Vitold Arnett Professor of Cell Biology, associate vice chancellor for research and professor of biochemistry and molecular pharmacology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences was founded in 1780 by John Adams, John Hancock and others, and represents today’s innovative thinkers in every field and profession. This year’s election consists of artists, scholars, scientists, and leaders in the public, non-profit and private sectors.
