Dean's Team Accepting Applications for Membership
Distinguished group of students supports A&S admissions efforts
If you or someone you know wants to gain valuable leadership experience while helping others, then read on.
The College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) is accepting applications for membership in the Dean’s Team. Open to all returning undergraduates in A&S and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, this dynamic group assists A&S Dean Karin Ruhlandt with various activities throughout the year. They include corresponding with incoming freshmen during the summer, providing class registration advice at Opening Weekend and the January Opening, reminding students about important dates and deadlines, and serving as First-Year Forum mentors.
In addition to the satisfaction derived from helping others, Dean’s Team members gain much-needed service points. A new study by Deloitte reveals that more than 80 percent of hiring managers prefer applicants with volunteer experience, claiming it builds leadership skills. Such training also pays dividends in the graduate admissions process.
Moreover, Dean’s Team members are able to move in early during Opening Weekend, receive an hour of academic credit for leading a First-Year Forum and are eligible for a letter of recommendation from the A&S admissions office. Swag, thank-you parties and mention in the A&S celebratory convocation booklet also are part of the package.
With a few notable exceptions, membership in the Dean’s Team does not entail any regular time commitments. We know how busy you are, so flexible work schedules are the norm. This way, Dean’s Team members can provide personalized attention and fast, efficient service, without compromising their other commitments.
