Minor in TESOL

Why Study TESOL?

The minor in TESOL is an 18-credit level program focusing on the teaching of English to speakers of other languages. It prepares individuals for entry-level positions teaching English in a variety of educational, community, business, and government contexts, with the exception of public K-12 school settings. For specific requirements, please consult the Course Catalog.

Sample Requirements

Students must complete 18 credits, 12 of which must be at the 300 level or above.

  • LIN 301 - Introductory Linguistic Analysis, OR
  • LIN 305 – Linguistic Structure of English, AND
  • LIN 321 - Introduction to Methodology of Teaching Languages: English/Foreign Language Teaching
  • LIN 422 - Advanced Methods of Teaching Languages: English/Foreign Language Teaching

Language Requirement

One (three or four-credit) course in a language other than English or demonstrate proficiency in a language other than English.

Students will choose two courses from an approved set as long as a total of 12 credits in the minor are taken at the 300 level or above.
