Wil Marple is studying American literature of the long nineteenth century with special attention to the Transcendentalists and other authors of the mid-century “American Renaissance.” His current research is informed by the notion that expectations shape perception, examining how works of fiction grapple with expectations formed in relation to custom, habit, and tradition. He has served as the instructor of record for WRT 105 and WRT 205.
