M.S. in Medicolegal Death Investigation

Program Overview

  • The M.S. in Medicolegal Death Investigation is a 36-credit degree intended for students who have selected this career path, and the objective is to prepare them for the various aspects of this occupation including case investigation, understanding the body along with pathologies and trauma, autopsy, interviewing skills, securing and documenting evidence, and courtroom testimony.
  • This degree will also prepare students to work effectively with and understand other professionals whose roles intersect with death investigation (forensic pathologists, crime scene investigators, law enforcement officers, toxicologists and other medical and legal personnel)

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants with a lower GPA may be considered based on other strengths, such as relevant coursework, research, internship experience, or grade improvement over time.
  • The medicolegal death investigation degree requires an undergraduate degree that preferably includes at least two semesters of science courses, with at least one laboratory.

    • Our target application date for either Summer or Fall admission is Feb. 15. This is not a deadline, since we have rolling admission, but applying by this date ensures we will have space and that you will be fully considered for possible scholarships. We have a small number of scholarships, and they are nominated based on applications. For Spring admission, the target date is October 15.
