Minor in Child and Family Policy Studies
Child and Family Policy Studies is the interdisciplinary examination of issues related to the development, delivery and assessment of child and family and social policies and programs. This field engages students from different disciplines in collaborative learning around issues of advocacy, service delivery and development of evidence-based public programs and policies.
The department offers a minor in Child and Family Policy Studies for undergraduate students seeking to focus their academic work on child and family policy issues. Students will gain understanding of public policy and child and family issues to better understand healthy development to public policies and government programming. The minor is designed for students seeking careers working with children and families on developing or evaluating programs and policies or considering graduate programs in related areas.
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to explain principles of human development in families from diverse populations and analyze how research and theories are utilized in the field of child and family policy across diverse settings. Students will also be able to critically evaluate service delivery and child and family practices across settings. Additionally, students will be prepared to assess public policy and child and family related issues.
