Program Benefits and Requirements

Coronat Scholars aim to maximize their four years in college. Beyond meeting our basic requirements, they often seek academic rigor and intellectual pursuits that go beyond what is required for graduation. Thus, they are provided with special benefits that help them make the most of their college careers.

Full Tuition Scholarship

The Coronat Scholarship covers the full cost of tuition for four years of undergraduate study, or for five years of undergraduate study if you enroll in an approved five-year program. This scholarship will be reflected in your admission notification letter and applied directly to your Bursar Account. For questions about scholarship funds, contact the Office of Financial Aid.

Additional Financial Aid

The Coronat Scholars Program may provide additional financial aid to meet your demonstrated financial need that exceeds the cost of tuition. This benefit is available only to students who are eligible for federal financial aid and have completed both the FAFSA and CSS Profile.

Funding for Study Abroad

The Coronat Scholars Program will cover the cost of one Syracuse Abroad international study opportunity. You may choose from 100+ programs in 60+ locations, including short-term, summer and semester-long options. For more information about study abroad options, visit the Syracuse Abroad website.

Admission to the Renée Crown University Honors Program

Students who are selected for the Coronat Scholars Program are automatically granted admission to the Renée Crown University Honors Program. For more information about the Honors Program and associated benefits, visit the Honors Program website.

Mentoring for Prominent Scholarships

Coronat Scholars are often competitive for prominent national scholarships due to the impressive work they do as undergraduate students. Past Coronats have received the Rhodes Scholarship, Marshall Scholarship, Truman Scholarship, Fulbright Award and others.

The Coronat Co-Directors and other faculty at Syracuse meet regularly with Coronat Scholars to ensure that they are taking advantage of the many scholarship opportunities presented to them. Additional guidance is available through the Center for Fellowship and Scholarship Advising.

Program Requirements

In addition to meeting their minimum requirements for graduation, students must also meet the following requirements to remain part of the Coronat Scholas Program:

Coronat Scholars must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and full-time enrollment each semester. *Students enrolled before Fall 2026 must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and full-time enrollment each semester.

All Coronat Scholars must have the College of Arts and Sciences or Maxwell School as their home college. When a student enrolls in an integrated learning major, they must choose a base major in A&S | Maxwell so that A&S | Maxwell remains their home college. Students may add additional majors from other schools or colleges at Syracuse University, but may not transfer to other schools and colleges if they wish to retain the scholarship.

Transferring to another school or college at Syracuse University or failing to meet the minimum cumulative GPA requirement will result in withdrawal from the Coronat Scholars Program.
