Kathleen Corrado, executive director of the Forensic and National Security Sciences Institute, was interviewed by Virginia public media company VPM about the investigation of former Virginia state lab analyst Mary Jane Burton. Burton's work recently came into question on a podcast called “Admissible: Shreds of Evidence.”
As chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee, which serves as an advisory board to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science and to the Virginia Forensic Science Board, Corrado and her team were tasked with reviewing allegations of possible testing errors. Following a discussion of the claims presented in the podcast, Corrado noted a need for further investigation and recommended that anyone impacted by Burton’s past lab work be notified about potential forensic testing errors.
