David J. Bishop, B.S.’73, Ph.D.‘78

David Bishop posing

David Bishop, who earned his undergraduate degree at Syracuse from 1969-1973, was recently awarded the 2026 Oliver E. Buckley Condensed Matter Physics Prize by the American Physical Society for his contributions to understanding superfluids. Dr. Bishop is currently Head of the Division of Materials Science & Engineering and Director of the CELL-MET Engineering Research Center at Boston University. After completing his undergraduate degree at Syracuse University, Dr. Bishop moved on to Cornell University to complete his Ph.D.

He reflected on his journey: "Syracuse gave me my start, and I will always be grateful for that." Learn more about Dr. Bishop's major accomplishment here.

SU Physics graduate alumna Steluta Dinca was featured in a Physics Today article, "What can physicists do?", an interview series exploring diverse physics career paths!

Dan Goldman, B.S.’14, B.A. ‘14

Dan graduated in 2014 with a B.S. in Physics and a B.A. in Applied Mathematics. He recently started a new position at Teradyne Inc. as a Senior Optical Systems Engineer in their Silicon Photonics Test Division, where he's working on the first-ever high-volume silicon photonics test solutions for foundries such as TSMC for wafer-level production testing of co-packaged optics devices. Dan is happy to connect with students interested in industrial applications of optics and photonics for their future careers.

Richard Michalak, M.S.’75, Ph.D.‘82

Dr. Michalak is enjoying studying Cosmology in retirement after 40 years of work at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL)
