A&S Adds to Advancement Team

The College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) has named Adrian Mitchell as a director of development, effective May 4. Mitchell brings extensive experience in academic advancement to the role, including positions across several Syracuse University units.
Prior to joining A&S, Mitchell worked in advancement roles at Advancement and External Affairs, the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. That range of institutional experience gives him a high-level view of the University and opportunities for donors, alumni and friends to engage with its broader mission.
In his new post, Mitchell will partner with A&S leadership and faculty to advance the fundraising priorities outlined in the College’s Academic Strategic Plan, including supporting faculty research, building program-specific endowments and deepening relationships with alumni and friends of the College.
Jen Stone, A&S interim dean for advancement and the University's assistant vice president for schools, colleges and units, describes Mitchell as a skilled fundraiser with strong relationship instincts and a demonstrated ability to move donors to philanthropic commitment.
"Adrian is thoughtful, collaborative and genuinely motivated by the mission of the College," Stone says. “His ability to translate academic excellence into compelling philanthropic opportunities — and to connect donors to the work happening across our departments — makes him a strong addition to the A&S advancement team."
Mitchell earned both his bachelor’s and MBA from the University at Albany, where he competed on the Division I track and field team.
“I am incredibly excited to step into this role and build on the outstanding foundation that exists within the College of Arts and Sciences,” Mitchell says. “The College has a remarkable story defined by intellectual curiosity, groundbreaking research and real student impact. It’s a privilege to help connect our alumni to that work and to support the ambitious vision of the Shaping the Future strategic plan.”
