The College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) advancement office is pleased to announce the hiring of two new directors of development. John Nehme ’08, G ’10, G’12, has joined the College as senior director of development and Julie Albertson as a director of development. Each will work with alumni, parents and friends to support the College’s strategic and financial objectives.

“Both John and Julie’s passion for higher education and the liberal arts will resonate strongly with our alumni and donors and will help to foster lasting connections,” says John Quigley, assistant dean for advancement in A&S. “Their knowledge and fresh perspectives will play a vital role in helping us to advance the fundraising goals of the College and I am thrilled to welcome them to our team.”

Nehme’s Orange connections run deep, and his wealth of higher education experience will be an asset to the A&S advancement office. Before returning to Syracuse for this position, he served as an advancement officer at Le Moyne College since 2022. Prior to that, he was at Hamilton College for seven years where he worked in a variety of roles - most recently as a senior leadership gift officer.

He received an undergraduate degree from the Whitman School of Management and has graduate degrees from the School of Education and the iSchool. Nehme says he is excited to be coming back to work at Syracuse.

“The College of Arts and Sciences plays a critical role in advancing the academic mission of Syracuse University and I look forward to doing my part alongside alumni, faculty and staff to ensure the continued success of the College,” says Nehme. “I can think of no greater personal or professional honor than to serve my alma mater.”

Albertson joins the advancement team with nearly 30 years of experience in higher education, all of which was at Cornell University. She was most recently in the College of Arts and Sciences, where she held positions as a major gift officer, director of development and senior major gift officer. Prior to that, she was director of The Cornell Commitment Alumni Programs – a university-wide undergraduate recognition program – and a major gift associate with the Office of University Major Gifts.

“I was drawn to this position with the A&S advancement team due to the mission, vision and values,” says Albertson. “As a whole, I’m impressed with AEA’s commitment to being a place where colleagues are supportive, cooperative, dedicated and accountable. I look forward to nurturing strong relationships with colleagues and donors that are built on trust, shared values and a mutual commitment to making a meaningful impact.”

Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Albertson received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and earned two master’s degrees from Binghamton University.

Nehme started on April 15 and Albertson on May 6.
