Opportunities abound for students to job shadow and network with SU grads around the country over break

June 15, 2016, by News Staff

network_alumni.jpg

Due to the popularity of the program and the enthusiastic response from alumni, The College of Arts and Sciences has extended its summer networking program through June 24, and in some cases, beyond.

The Advising & Career Services Center wants to help you tap into this great resource. Numerous alumni have agreed to open their worksite for the benefit of current students throughout the summer, for job shadows, informational interviews, or coffee chats.  Job shadows, informational interviews, and coffee chats are a great way for you to learn and seek advice on your career interests, the industry, and the corporate culture of a potential future workplace.  It is also a great way for you to build and expand your professional network.  The opportunities listed below reflect what our great alumni were able to offer.

Requirements

There are no fees to participate, however, you must meet all of the following requirements:

1) Your availability must match the dates listed for the opportunity.

2) You must have housing and transportation in the location listed. Opportunities are available in cities across the country, wherever alumni who are willing to host are located. You will be able to express interest in opportunities near your hometown, as well as those where you know you would be able to stay for a few days. For example, if there is an NYC opportunity and you live in NYC (or could commute easily to NYC), you’re all set.  If there is an opportunity in NYC you’re interested in and you’re NOT from NYC, but you are positive that you could stay with your aunt in the City for those days (CALL AND MAKE SURE!), and you would be able to travel there without issue, that’s ok, too. Additionally, some informational interviews will have the option to be conducted over the phone or through Skype - so you do not necessarily need to be in the location listed.

Students will be matched largely on a “first come, first served” basis.

How to Express Interest

Read through the opportunities below that pertain to you. You MAY express interest in more than one opportunity and are, in fact, encouraged to do so if other opportunities are of interest to you and feasible for you to do. This will increase your chances of being matched.  For more information and to apply, contact Sue Casson, Director of Career Development and Services at smcasson@syr.edu or 315.443.3150.
