The Janklow Arts Leadership Program, housed in the Department of Art and Music Histories in Syracuse University's College of Arts and Sciences, has placed its first student intern.

Caitlin Moriarty '12, G'13
, a member of the program's inaugural cohort, will intern this summer in Carnegie Hall’s marketing and creative services department. She will report to Marketing Manager Michael Naess, who will teach her how to attract and retain existing subscribers, as well as cultivate younger potential subscribers.

“I hope to network and shadow in a variety of other areas to gain a holistic perspective of such a successful organization,” says Moriarty, who, as an undergraduate, interned at Jazz at Lincoln Center. “Being pragmatic, I hope this internship will turn into full-time employment at Carnegie Hall or somewhere else in New York City.”

“We’re extremely proud of Caitlin,” says Mark Nerenhausen, professor of practice and founding director of the Janklow Program. “As an ambassador of The College, she will put her training to work, acquiring real-world experience in arts marketing and audience development. In turn, Caitlin will be a valuable addition to the Carnegie Hall team.”

The founder of a Syracuse-based arts and cultural consultancy, Moriarty was recently chosen to participate in a two-day assembly titled "Revitalizing the Legacy Cities of Upstate New York," sponsored by the CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity, SU, the University of Buffalo's School of Architecture and Planning, and Columbia University's American Assembly.

Carnegie Hall is one of the most prestigious venues in classical and popular music. Located in Midtown Manhattan, the 122-year-old facility has its own artistic programming, development, and marketing departments. It presents approximately 250 performances each season.

The Janklow Program is a 15-month master's program that trains future leaders in the creative and performing arts. The program is highly selective, combining interdisciplinary coursework with professional mentorships, competitive internships, and unique immersion opportunities. Applications are currently being sought for Summer 2013.
