Amber Vandepoele '22 is gaining applied science experience and expanding her professional network while working alongside forensics experts at Syracuse Universty and beyond.
After reaching out to research assistant professor and head of FNSSI research Michael Marciano early on, Vandepoele became the first freshman undergraduate researcher in his lab. She's also worked alongside Jonathan Adelman, and experts from NicheVision Forensics, who develop and distributes innovative DNA analysis software to forensic laboratories worldwide.
While gaining real-world experience on campus, Vandepoele was chosen as one of four student ambassadors for the 32nd International Symposium on Human Identification, the world's largest forensic DNA conference. Vandepoele's academic interests and studies have confirmed her ambition to work as a DNA analyzer. She intends to pursue a master's degree in forensic science at Syracuse University.
