Biographic Overview

Emily Williams is a native of Central New York. Before coming to Syracuse University, she worked in the non-profit and human service sector for nearly ten years.  During her tenure, she co-created and implemented a nutrition and health education curriculum for individuals with living with chronic health conditions and HIV/AIDS. She contributed to grant proposals, program lobbying and various outreach strategies across NYS. She also worked during the initial implementation of the Affordable Care Act in New York State under the Obama administration. Her and her team enrolled, assisted and educated over 70,000 New Yorkers regarding their health insurance and care needs. She also supervised a grant program that served aged, blind and disabled populations for advocacy in applying for Medicare and Medicaid while seeking long-term health care options. As the current Internship Placement Coordinator for the HDFS department, Emily works closely with students to provide directive, guidance, mentorship and support for their success at practicum sites, capstone projects and professional development goals.  She serves as the liaison between the university/HDFS department and many community organizations across NYS and the United States to find appropriate placements and learning opportunities for students seeking experience in the field of human development, counseling, education, health care, child care, human service, case management and much more.
