"Aristide 'Ari' Deleanu (1932-2020)

Deleanu passed away on May 13 at the age of 88. His research was in algebraic topology and category theory. He earned his PhD from the University of Bucharest in 1961 under Simion Stoilow and Grigore Moisil. His teaching career began at the University of Bucharest, then to the Institute of Mathematics at the Romanian Academy of Sciences. In 1968 he became a faculty member at Syracuse University in the Department of Mathematics and remained there until his retirement in 2000. He was an AMS member since 1972 and a regular donor in support of AMS programs and services."
