Quick Q&A with Gerry Greenberg
Favorite Hobby?
🪘“I got into world percussion. I probably have about a dozen hand drums of all different kinds. I’m planning to learn more about music in a more structured way in my retirement.”
Favorite Foods?
🍰 “Steak, chicken wings and cheesecake. I could probably live on those.”
Favorite Vacation Spot?
🇨🇦 “Niagara Falls. Growing up in Miami, the northeast was like Mars to me. After realizing it was just three hours away from Central New York while in graduate school at Cornell, I traveled there and fell in love with it.”
What’s something you want to learn during your retirement?
🇨🇳 “Chinese. It connects with my interest in Taoism. I know it takes discipline and regular engagement, but I’m hoping it will work out.”
Most memorable moment at SU?
🎓 “Probably the time I had to introduce an honorary degree recipient at Commencement whose name and affiliations [Thomas Porter (Sakokwenionkwas)] were difficult to pronounce. I spent hours practicing so I wouldn’t sound like a total fool. People complimented me on it, which made me feel good.”
