A&S Communications Team Welcomes Communications Specialist
Grogan brings over 10 years of writing and editing experience as a healthcare content marketer and sports journalist.
The College of Arts and Sciences’ (A&S’) Office of Communications welcomes communications specialist Sean Grogan. He comes to A&S with extensive writing and marketing experience, most recently serving as a proposal coordinator for Prudent Engineering LLP, a multidisciplinary civil engineering and land survey firm. In that position, he leveraged his writing and editing expertise to assist in the proposal development process, collaborating with managers in Prudent Engineering's offices throughout Upstate New York.
Prior to that, Grogan worked as a content writer for the medical technology company Ambu. There, he created engaging articles translating medical information for general readers that resonated with customer interests and supported the company's mission. Additionally, he served as a healthcare writer for Antenna Group, where his responsibilities included conveying complex medical topics to diverse audiences on behalf of healthcare clients.
Grogan joins the six-person communications team at A&S, where he will enhance the College's reach and reputation by creating content that showcases the creative and academic achievements of its faculty and students. His responsibilities will include writing articles on faculty and student research and scholarship, updating the College's website, assisting with print and digital alumni magazines, producing e-newsletters and managing projects related to A&S’ admissions and advancement offices.
Arts and Sciences Executive Director of Communications and Internal Affairs Daeya Malboeuf says, “We are especially excited to welcome Sean given his multi-faceted experience as a reporter, science writer and content marketer. The A&S Communications Office handles a wide array of responsibilities and projects, and Sean's diverse expertise will enable him to contribute quickly as we promote the University's largest and most academically diverse college.”
Grogan received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from SUNY Oswego. After graduating in 2013, he was a sports reporter for Columbia-Greene Media in Hudson, New York, The Record in Troy, New York, and The Cecil Whig in Elkton, Maryland. At Cecil Whig, he pioneered that paper’s coverage of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens, expanding their sports reporting on a national stage. For his reporting, he was the recipient of the Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association Sports Story of the Year award in 2019.
"As someone who grew up in Central New York, I'm excited to become part of the vibrant Syracuse University community," says Grogan. "I look forward to the opportunity to spotlight the remarkable students, alumni, faculty and staff in the College of Arts and Sciences."
Grogan will start January 7.
