The College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) welcomes Rachel Skipper as the new assistant director of undergraduate recruitment in the Office of Admissions. Previously, she served as admissions counselor in Syracuse University’s central Office of Admissions. 

“It's been great so far working in A&S!” Skipper says. “I enjoy educating students and their families about our many great academic programs and experiential learning opportunities.”

In her new role, Skipper is an integral part of undergraduate admissions efforts for Arts and Sciences and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. She assists Chris Anderson, director of graduate and undergraduate recruitment in in all phases of student recruitment and admissions outreach for A&S/Maxwell. She meets with prospective students and families, both on campus and at regional events; interviews candidates for admission; and reviews applications.

Skipper’s portfolio includes coordinating email campaigns to interested students, in coordination with larger University admissions efforts. She also supervises the Dean’s Team, a select group of A&S students who assist A&S Admissions at major events throughout the year. The Dean’s Team helps with the recruitment and transition of new students by serving as peer mentors.

Before coming to Syracuse University, Skipper pursued her graduate education and worked at Indiana University in science outreach and STEM, recruiting students to targeted programming. She also held key roles in planning programs and conferences.

“I have a passion for the liberal arts since they were part of my studies in college and in graduate school,” says Skipper. “They’ve helped prepare me for this role at A&S.”

“Rachel’s experience in recruitment at the University level, as well as event planning and management, make her a key asset to A&S,” Anderson says. “We’re already seeing great results.”

Skipper received a master’s degree in behavioral neuroscience, with a certificate in animal behavior, from Indiana University. She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a minor in neuroscience, from Miami University.
