John Quigley Joins College of Arts and Sciences as Assistant Dean for Advancement
Quigley previously worked at Cornell, University of Colorado Boulder
John Quigley has been named assistant dean for advancement in the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) at Syracuse University. His appointment is effective Nov. 15.
“We are delighted that John is joining our development operation,” says College of Arts and Sciences Dean Karin Ruhlandt. “He brings with him an impressive set of knowledge and skills in higher education advancement.”
In his new role, Quigley will report dually to Dean Ruhlandt and SU Vice President for Development Peter Cronin. He will be responsible for developing the college’s fundraising strategic plan and overseeing the college’s fundraising efforts, solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of major prospects and donors.
Quigley will work closely with the A&S Board of Visitors and serve as a liaison between the college and the Division of Advancement and External Affairs on fundraising priorities and coordination of advancement initiatives. He will also collaborate with the Office of Alumni Engagement and with faculty and staff colleagues within the college and the University’s central offices on annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, planned giving, and major and principal gifts activities.
“The College of Arts and Sciences plays a special role as both the founding college and the liberal arts center of Syracuse University,” Quigley says. “I look forward to working with the college’s leadership and the University’s central development office to support the dynamic work of the faculty, staff and students in the college’s many academic departments.”
Since 2007, Quigley has held various fundraising positions of increasing responsibility at Cornell University, including individual giving officer in Cornell’s Office of Special Gifts and major gifts officer, senior development officer and, most recently, director of development in Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences.
Quigley’s College of Arts and Sciences team led all Cornell college and unit fundraising teams in new gifts and commitments for the past two years, and for FY17 the college had a record year for annual giving and had the second-most successful year for new gifts and commitments overall.
Prior to joining Cornell, Quigley was associate director of development for the College of Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder and before that was general manager of Boulder public radio station KVCU.
