Harper Hale’s interests revolve around power, coloniality, and the "perverse." With a focus on 20th-21st century American and Caribbean literature, her work foregrounds perversion as a vital component of colonial modernity. She examines the Gothic and other subversive forms to access the perverse in its various manifestations. Harper places immense importance on the disruption these narratives can create due to the (de)constructive possibilities they hold.
