Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy

Marriage and Family Therapy is the advanced study of theory and research methodology in marriage and family therapy practice. The doctoral program builds upon a clinical master's in Marriage and Family Therapy and provides understanding of advanced theory with expertise in process and outcome research methodology. This program prepares students to work within a social justice framework to engage in cultural humility, awareness of self in relation to others, and understanding of psychosocial and cultural contexts of issues presented in clinical practice and research.

The Human Development and Family Studies Department offers a doctoral program in Marriage and Family Therapy designed to prepare students for teaching, supervisory and research positions in graduate degree-granting institutions, training institutes and health care settings. The program operates on the belief that valuing each other's similarities and differences helps deepen understanding of relationships in systems.
