Ty McElroye Wins 2025 Whitman Capstone Competition

Senior Coronat Scholar Ty McElroye led his team to a first‑place finish in the 2025 Whitman Capstone Competition as CEO of their company, WordBuddy. His win highlights both his leadership and the impact Coronat Scholars continue to make across campus.

Senior Coronat Scholar Ty McElroye, who is double‑majoring in Accounting and Political Science, closed out his final year at Syracuse University with an incredible achievement. Ty and his team competed in the 2025 Whitman Capstone Competition, the culminating experience for Whitman seniors that challenges students to apply their business knowledge in a high‑pressure, real‑world setting.

Ty served as the CEO of his team’s company, WordBuddy, leading the group through months of strategy development, financial modeling and pitch preparation. Their hard work paid off and the team walked away with first place.

Reflecting on the experience, Ty shared how meaningful it was to guide his team through the competition and see their vision come to life. The win marks a standout moment in his senior year and highlights the leadership, analytical skill and collaborative mindset he’s developed throughout his time at Syracuse.
