Application Process and Selection Information

Application Process

Students are considered for the Coronat Scholarship based on their application to the College of Arts and Sciences | Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Of the 18,000+ students who apply to Arts and Sciences | Maxwell programs each year, approximately 200 will be selected to apply for the Coronat Scholarship.

If you are selected to apply for the Coronat Scholarship, you will be notified via email in January. You will be asked to complete a written application, which the Coronat Scholarship Committee will evaluate alongside your previously-submitted application materials.

Of the students who apply for the Coronat Scholarship, approximately 40 will be invited to interview with the Coronat Scholarship Committee. Interviews will be held via Zoom, in early spring.

Preceding and during their college years, Coronat Scholars are committed to serving others and have outstanding intellect, achievement and courage. They are prepared not only to join but to enhance the Arts and Sciences | Maxwell community.

When evaluating Syracuse University applicants and deciding which should be invited to apply for the Coronat Scholarship, the Admissions Committee looks for:

Leadership and service

Strong candidates for the Coronat Scholarship are leaders in their communities. They have demonstrated their ability to make a positive difference and serve as role models among their peers.

Academic strength

Coronat Scholars have superb academic records with an average high school GPA of 4.15, average SAT super score of 1500 and average ACT super score of 34. They have been National Merit Scholarship finalists, members of finalist Odyssey of the Mind teams, high school valedictorians and top scorers on national language and science exams.

Demonstrated interest

When a Coronat Scholar is selected, it’s clear that they will not only join but enhance our academic and social community. Their academic interests are clear and align with Arts and Sciences | Maxwell academic departments, they are inclined to join and lead student organizations and activities and are eager to be part of the on-campus community of Coronat Scholars.
