Rematriation, Syracuse University's Center for Global Indigenous Cultures and Environmental Justice and SU Libraries Special Collections Research Center hosted a symposium on Haudenosaunee and Indigenous matrilineality February 28-March 2 on ancestral Onondaga lands.
The event highlighted Indigenous matrilineal knowledge for addressing social and environmental challenges. Keynote panelists included New York Times bestselling author Robin Wall Kimmerer and "Reservation Dogs" actor Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs.
Michelle Schenandoah G'19, Rematriation's founder, hosted the keynote alongside Mohawk Bear Clan Mother Louise "Mommabear" Herne and Onondaga Hawk Clan Chief Spencer Lyons. Samantha Doxtator presented on Haudenosaunee astronomy's celestial worldview.
