HDFS Professor Discusses Relationship Goals with USA Today
Eman Tadros
Eman Tadros, assistant professor in the College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Human Development and Family Science, was quoted in a USA Today article examining how couples can approach goal-setting for the year ahead. The piece analyzed effective strategies for partners to align on priorities and create meaningful plans together.
In the article, Tadros, a marriage and family expert, explained the importance of distinguishing between individual and shared objectives, saying "What's most healthy is when you have your individual goals and your couple goals." She suggested practical approaches like using cards or images to visualize personal versus couple goals and identifying where these intersect. The couple goals should be ones both partners completely agree on, she noted.
Tadros emphasized focusing on emotional goals alongside material ones, encouraging couples to prioritize everyday moments as much as major milestones. "It can be something really small, not breaking the bank, but little milestones along the way," she said.
